Did you know

Did you know that in 79 A.D, Mount Vesuvius erupted, spraying ash and poisonous gases over 12 miles high. That's twice the size of Mount Everest. The eruption buried the city and Pompeii wasn't seen again for 1,669 years, when it was discovered in 1748.

Pingos

This week during Social Studies we were learning about pingos. What is a pingo? Pingos are ice-cored mounds that rise up in permafrost zones like the Mackenzie Delta. Some are 20 to 25 meters tall! Ibyuk Pingo, Canada's tallest pingo is 49 meters tall and 300 meters across, making it the second tallest pingo in the world!

Erasers

1. Pencil manufacturers make erasers too, which has become familiar, however that wasn't always the case...
2. The pencil with an eraser on the end is an American phenomenon. The first patent for a pencil with an eraser on the end was in 1858 to a man by the name of Hyman Lipman of Philidelphia. Even to this day pencils sold in Europe are eraser-less.
