A topic sentence states the main idea of a paragraph. It's often placed as the beginning sentence.
(Example) TOPIC: Sports
I play many sports throughout the year. One of my favourites is curling. Another sport I enjoy is softball. Some of the other sports I play are hockey, skiing, and golf. The sport I am best at though is judo.
